Understanding Surrender

There can be a lot of negative connotation around the word surrender while underestimating its importance and meaning in our lives. Admiring independent people is easy. We are that in hundred different ways, each person in their own walk. We can also understand how vital it is to surrender to your loved ones when they need your help, when they need to be heard. Surrender is in the many small sacrifices we give everyday to others. We are invested in their lives, dedicated, supportive, and willing to provide.

It is the same with God, as God surrenders and gives to us, we do for God. The act of surrendering is a relationship decision. Not everyone has the same bottom line. We are diverse. We chose how much to give in a relationship. What I give over to God is different from what the next person might. This does not take away my independence, but is independent. It is like this with all other things believed academically, scientifically, and psychologically. It is my choice to stay in a relationship. Reasoning is applied in faith as in all methodologies.

Surrender is one of those human qualities that allows a dismantling of ourselves. We give up our own ways all the time to collaborate with people we work with and live. This is a type of surrender. We collaborate with God as well. Surrender is hearing and considering God’s input through his word, Holy Spirit, and interactive relationship. This makes it a real life change in a spiritual act. One person to another. One being to another.

Genuine love answers for surrender. If a person loves another,  they are willing to go the extra mile, give more, work together, collaborate, let others have the win, make the sacrifice of love. It serves, and gives, and grows people together, creating something new. This is God’s surrender to us, and in this relationship we create something new, a new way of living.

Surrendering to God is much like when I’m determined to believe a lie about my husband, but instead of being defensive, or judging me harshly, he surrenders and offers me understanding. This is surrender. This is God. Everyone shares in love and surrender. This is how surrender and faith work in a united relationship with God. Christianity is not surrendering to religious laws. It is living with God because his life is given to you. God is here connecting with every person.
